Great Expectations

David Lean expertly pared down Dickens' classic novel for this masterful adaptation. He concentrated on the relationship between Pip and Estella, while revealing a taste for strong-willed, obsessive characters, with which, as an exacting perfectionist himself, he could easily identify.
