Never Take No for an Answer

Simple, ingenuous account of the beautiful faith of a youngster in the benevolence of St. Francis and the paternal solicitude of the Pope. The boy, a tinker in Assisi, has a donkey he loves very much. The donkey gets sick and the boy petitions that he be permitted to take it before the altar in the Church of St. Francis that it may be made well. The brothers will not give permission, saying the donkey cannot be led down the winding stairs into the lower church, and they will not order workmen to knock through a long walled-up door. Permission for such an alteration, they say, can only be given by the Pope.
