Pulp Fiction
Tarantino's sprawling, stylish fresco of comic-strip crime and punishment stunned the film-making world upon its release in 1994, and spawned a seemingly endless slew of imitators. The film's various vignettes of underworld life are ingeniously interwoven, the shifts between comedy and violence are sudden and shocking, and the pop-culture allusions keep coming thick and fast. A rollercoaster of a film.
