Raising Arizona
Blood Simple made it clear that the cinematically precocious Coen brothers were gifted filmmakers to watch out for. But it was the outrageously farcical Raising Arizona that announced the Coens' darkly comedic audacity to the world. Vowing to go straight, a convenience store bandit propses marriage to the police department photographer. All is wedded bliss until they discover she's unable to get pregnant and are turned down by every adoption agency in town. It doesn't take long before they realise the only solution is to kidnap one of the town's celebrated quintuplets and hit the road.

A film I return to again and again is the Coen Brother's second movie Raising Arizona (1987). It was hugely inspiring for me; in its tone, its visuals and in its highly quotable and amazingly detailed script.
It showed that a comedy film can be stylised and yet still warm; be tightly structured and yet still wild.
Its a film you have to watch a good four or five times to spot everything and I've done so much, much more than that.
