The Seventh Seal

I think the film would have to be The Seventh Seal by Ingmar Bergman.
There is a mass of others beating at the brain from great European to Great American films & yes to great British films but The Seventh Seal uses film to tell a profound & timeless story about the returning hero (which is at the beginning of our Western Literature since the Odyssey) & the imminence of death.
It was acted with impeccable power. It caught a medieval period perfectly & it contains some of the great memorable images in cinema.
