UK 2000
A young boy stumbles out of the boxing ring and onto the ballet floor.
Billy Elliot, because great art should move you, and I went to see it and I cried. It was an unashamedly visceral film about individuality, and so assured were their contributions, you couldn't imagine that it was Jamie Bell and Stephen Daldry's feature debuts. Credit should also go to Lee Hall for such a truthful screenplay and Working Title, who have, in the last twenty years, almost singlehandedly flown the banner for commercial but credible British film.
Q2 What excites you about the future of the moving image?
Even bigger servings of popcorn.
