Surreal tale in which love, fear, sex and religion merge into one fantastic world.
This is the only film I've ever got to the end of, and immediately rewound and watched straight through again. It's that intriguing. The first time I watched it I didn't understand the whole story and am not even sure I realised that it was a vampire movie, and every time I've watched it since I've seen something I haven't noticed previously. In that way it works like good music, constantly revealing new perspectives and facets.
I'd also like to mention Wisconsin Death Trip as an amazing piece of film-making, and surely part of the inspiration behind The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.
