Strategic Audience Development Fund

The Partnerships team lead on the Lottery distribution and management of funds through various strategically designed schemes in support of the BFI Future Plan.

We drive key areas of activity and responsibility, including communications and advocacy, and lead on strategic project development. We also ensure partners are fit for purpose and give value for money for and on behalf of the BFI.

The following were funded until March 2013 by our Strategic Audience Development Fund (now closed), which supports the development of audiences for specialised and British films across the UK:

British Federation of Film Societies

The British Federation of Film Societies (BFFS) is funded by the BFI through the Strategic Audience Development Lottery Scheme and is the national organisation for the development and support of the film society and community cinema movement in the UK. They offer a wide range of services and resources dedicated to the needs of community cinemas.

Edinburgh International Film Festival

The Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) is funded by the BFI through the Strategic Audience Development Lottery Scheme. Established in 1947, the EIFF is renowned for discovering and promoting the very best in international cinema.

Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival

The Bristol Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival is funded by the BFI through the Strategic Audience Development Lottery Scheme. It is the longest running competitive short film and animation festival in England and is the umbrella festival for competition strands Animated Encounters and Brief Encounters.

Independent Cinema Office

The Independent Cinema Office (ICO) is funded by the BFI through the Strategic Audience Development Lottery Scheme and is the national organisation for the development and support of independent film exhibition in the UK.

FILMCLUB

Filmclub is funded by the BFI through the Strategic Audience Development Lottery Scheme and is an education charity that uses film as a springboard to transform young people’s lives. It helps schools set up clubs where young people can watch, discuss and review a wide variety of films. With the support of the BFI, the Department for Education, the Welsh Assembly and LOVEFiLM, it has grown from a 25-school pilot in 2007 to reach 220,000 children in over 7,000 clubs every week.

London Film Festival

The BFI London Film Festival is funded through the Strategic Audience Development Lottery Scheme. It is a UK premiere festival for both features and shorts.

Sheffield Doc/Fest

The Sheffield Doc/Fest is funded by the BFI through the Strategic Audience Development Lottery Scheme and brings the International documentary film community together to celebrate the art and business of documentary film making.

Your Local Cinema

Your Local Cinema is funded by the BFI through the Strategic Audience Development Lottery Scheme and is a ‘one stop shop’ for accessible cinema. It provides screening details of the latest films with English-language subtitles and audio description for people with hearing or sight loss.
