Distribution and Exhibition

The Distribution and Exhibition department works to widen the choice of films available to cinema audiences across the UK in 3 key ways:

  • Raising awareness: our Prints and Advertising Fund provides £4 million every year to help British distributors promote non-mainstream films.
  • Improving access: our Digital Screen Network is made up of 240 digital screens across the UK that now show non-mainstream films regularly.
  • Increasing information: our website Find Any Film is one of the UK's leading websites for film fans looking to watch, buy, download or rent great films.

The Prints and Advertising Fund

The Prints and Advertising Fund (P&A Fund) is designed to widen and support the distribution and marketing strategy of specialised films and to offer support to more commercially focused British films that nevertheless remain difficult to market.

Audience Development

  • Our long-term strategy is to extend choice for UK cinema goers as we have found the more choice audiences have, the more likely they are to choose a non-mainstream film. www.ukfilmcouncil.org.uk/audiencedev
  • Exit polls are used to find out about the audience for the film: who they are and what motivated them to come and see the film, with the results helping distributors to refine their marketing and publicity campaign for the film and inform distribution strategies for future releases.

Film Export Fund

In addition the Distribution and Exhibition team run the Film Export Fund. This fund aims to enhance the export opportunities of British films that have been selected to appear at important international festivals. The fund aims to help sales agents maximise a festival selection through enhanced publicity and/or marketing activity as well as assisting with technical and logistical costs involved with a high-profile festival appearance.
