BFI Governor Election

Of the fifteen-strong BFI Board of Governors, two are elected. All Governors serve a three-year term of office. With the retirement of Lizzie Francke on 31 December 2008, we are now holding an election for one Governor to take up an appointment from 1 January 2009: the appointment is subject to ratification by the BFI Board of Governors and the UK Film Council. A ballot paper and pin number will be posted to all members/subscribers along with a copy of the candidate statements.

You may vote by internet or telephone, but you may only use one of these voting options. Any attempt to vote more than once will be detected.

The phone number and online system are both controlled by Electoral Reform Services, the world's most respected independent polling body.

You can vote at any time, 24 hours a day, from 14 August 2008 until 12 noon on Friday 10 October 2008.

When is the appointment announced?

Under the BFI's Charter, the results will be reported to the Board of Governors who will confirm the candidate to be elected; that decision is then subject to confirmation by the UK Film Council. The new appointment will be confirmed towards the end of the year, and the successful candidate will take office from 1 January 2009.

The views expressed in these statements (which you can access by clicking on the links at the top-left of this page) are those of the individual candidates, not necessarily those of the British Film Institute or its Board of Governors. The statements are published exactly as submitted by the candidates.
