Peter Young

Video Conservation Technical Leader

Before joining the BFI, Peter worked for British Aerospace where he was actively involved in filming on location around the world making civil and military aircraft sales films. Peter has also worked for various videotape post-production facility companies in London.

Peter joined the Video Unit, based at the BFI Conservation Centre, in 1991. Since then Peter gained a HNC in Electronic Engineering and has been actively involved with various strands of video related work including editing work for Mediatheque content and other material screened at BFI Southbank. Peter was also an integral member of the HLF 2” quadraplex project, which migrated this obsolete video collection to a sustainable format for permanent preservation. Peter was also a Shift Leader, leading a team of Video Conservation Specialists within Television Operations. Peter was involved in setting up new digitising procedures and methodology in Legacy Video Tape Conservation, this involved building new facilities within Television Operations. Peter is currently working as a Video Conservation Technical Leader working in Archive Technology. His responsibilities are designing and building Mass Machine Ingesting facilities within the BFI, Engineering support for Television Operations and also actively involved with the current H22 Project.
