Nidhi Shukal

Nidhi is a digital curatorial archivist at the BFI National Archive, where she supports the work of the curatorial team through the acquisition, inspection, research, interpretation, and cataloguing of incoming collections.

Nidhi is a 2021 National Film and Television School MA graduate specialising in Film Studies, Programming and Curation. During this time she completed a month long internship at the BFI National Archive, which became the source of inspiration for ‘Cinema of Us’, an online film season focusing on the use of home movies in documentaries. She has been a pre-selector for the Film Africa Festival, a jury member for the FOCAL Awards and a programmer for Backyard Cinema at the NFTS.

Prior to working at the BFI, Nidhi worked as a secondary school teacher, where she taught English and was a subject lead for Media Studies. She was also mentor for trainee teachers, an Into Film club leader and school yearbook coordinator.

Nidhi has a BA (Hons) in English, a PGCE in English and an MA in Media Culture and Communication. She has a keen interest in the documentary form and researches the history of Indian cinema and the evolution of British television in her spare time.
