Naomi Murdock (Stanwyck) deserted her family for a life as an actress in 1900. Now ten years later, she returns home to see her daughter Lily’s (Lori Nelson) high school play.  She must deal with the judgemental townsfolk gossiping about her reputation, come to terms with the love of an old flame, and accept her own failings to be able to rejoin the community.
