Based on the classic book of the same name, this film follows the adventures of the life of Black Beauty. A new foal on the Evans' farm, it is the prized possession of their young son Joe. However, when the local squire calls in his loan on the farm Beauty is transferred and undergoes a series of adventures after the squire is killed: belonging to gypsies, a circus, an aristocratic family, seeing service with the army in India and as a coal-merchant's nag. Eventually Black Beauty is rescued by Anna Sewell and Joe Evans, who recognises his old horse.
