Winner of the Best Director prize at Cannes in 2001 for the highly acclaimed The Piano Teacher, Michael Haneke is one of contemporary cinema’s most distinctive and ambitious directors. An altercation on a Paris street involving a white youth, a black music teacher, an actress, and a Romanian beggar woman is the incident which links these characters and that of those close to them.
