Based on the play by George Bernard Shaw, Pygmalion tells the story of how a professor of phonetics transforms a Cockney flower girl into a poised and desirable woman. This film was a huge success upon release and won an Oscar for best screenplay as well as being nominated for best picture, best actor for Leslie Howard and best actress for Wendy Hiller. The screenplay was later adapted into the 1956 theatrical musical My Fair Lady.
