The Blitz Wolf
Dir. Tex Avery
US 1942 | Colour | 10 mins | Animation | Hollywood Classics
Avery casts his versatile wolf-actor as Hitler who impersonates the dictator with a goose-stepping arrogance in this epic-scale, all-stops-out wartime propaganda film. Not unlike Chaplin’s The Great Dictator, Avery mocks the war’s often absurd technology, aided by some uncannily phallic weapons. The film’s unfortunate, premonitory bombing of Japan makes for some uncomfortable viewing.
