The Day I Became a Woman
Dir. Marzieh Meshkini
Iran 2000 | Colour | 74 mins | Cert Exempt
This compelling and poignant study of the elementary problems faced by women in Eastern societies looks at three different generations in a triptych of subtle, bittersweet and surreal episodes. In the first story, a little girl realises this is the last day she will be able to play freely with boys. In the second, a cyclist taking part in a women's race is pressurised by her husband to return home. Soon other men join in the argument. In the third, an elderly woman goes on a shopping spree.
