After catching his wife in bed with another man, Takuro commits a brutal crime.  On his release from prison, and still haunted by memories of his past crime, he starts afresh and opens a barbershop.  When one fateful day he encounters an unconscious woman, his normal inward-looking ways begin to change as he gradually comes to like having her around.  The Eel won the Grand Prix at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival.
