Jacques Rivette’s delightfully bittersweet and highly entertaining comedy follows the romantic escapades of actress Camille, who returns to Paris with an Italian theatre company, led by her lover Ugo. They each have a secret motive for coming to Paris, where rising passions will lead to an improbable duel to death, forcing them to face the truth, and where the theatre, once again, will serve as a backdrop and a revelation.
