The BFI Film Academy Craft Residential delivered by the NFTS (National Film and Television School) is a two-week residential course for 66 young people running over the Easter holidays in 2015.

You’ll make a short film on industry-standard equipment under the tuition of top industry professionals. You’ll work in groups of 11, with each student specialising in a particular craft, such as editing, cinematography or sound.

Key dates

Introductory weekend (screenwriters only): Saturday 13 – Sunday 14 December 2014
Introductory weekend (all specialisms): Saturday 7 – Sunday 8 March 2015
Residential: Sunday 29 March – Thursday 9 April 2015

Application deadlines: screenwriting Monday 3 November 2014, all other crafts Monday 2 February 2015.

Screenwriting applicants will hear the outcome by Monday 17 November 2014. All other applicants will hear by Monday 23 February 2015.

Course fee

£99. You will also need to pay for your travel to and from the residential. Bursaries are available to cover fee and travel. Accommodation and food during the course are provided free.


Number of places: 66

Accommodation: Single rooms at Lane End conference venue (High Wycombe), with transport to and from the film school each day.
