African matinees

African British Consultative Committee are a voluntary group of film makers, film programmers, cultural activists, artists and performers, academics and community leaders. The group meet bi-monthly to propose a series of monthly matinees (feature and documentary films, television archives) as well as formal courses which form part of the public programme at the BFI Southbank. The meetings aim to extend engagement with audiences keen to explore a deeper understanding of the culture and historical experience of Africa and its diaspora.

The group welcomes new participants and requires that they have BOTH a strong interest and involvement in this area of film culture and the capability to extend this interest. For example, Tony Warner of 100 Black Men of London is involved in an extensive education through film programme in cultural institutions throughout London and brings both his experience and promotional activities to the programme.

The forthcoming programme for Jan-April 2009 is currently in development.
