Cinema, 100 Years Young
In the summer of 2009, BFI joined a film-making programme established by the Cinematheque Francaise in Paris called Le Cinema, cent ans de jeunesse. Mark Reid, Head of BFI Education, has been tracking the progress of the English participation in the project, which ran for the first time from during 2009 and up to July 2010. The programme is now being extended and you can follow its progress and see some of the films here.
What is le Cinema, cent ans de jeunesse?
Since 1995, the Cinematheque Francaise has been running a young people's film-making programme to celebrate the centenary of cinema. Still going strong after 15 years, the programme's approach involves young people in making films that responded to an aspect of film language which they study in detail over two terms. Over recent years similar programmes have started in Spain, Italy, and Portugal, and now the UK. Read more.
