If you are within reach of London or are planning a trip with your students during the term, book for one of our events at BFI Southbank or BFI IMAX. All our study days and training events are tied closely to curricular requirements and your students are guaranteed an unforgettable experience in our riverbank venues. At the bfi we believe that all children and young people should have opportunities to develop their moving image media literacy. As the guardian of one of the world's greatest collections of film and television we are delighted to help you make the most of this wonderful national resource.

This event is designed to support A level Music students with their listening, appraising and composing skills, especially those studying for the AQA Music for Film and WJEC Music for Stage and Screen. the different organisations of sounds which composers have used for particular effects, ambiences and contexts. The afternoon includes an interview with a well-known film composer who will talk about working in the industry and demonstrate how they compose.

The Princess Bride (US 1987 Dir Rob Reiner 98 min.) Fri 10 July 2009 10.30-13.00 NFT 3
This summer term screening of the Oscar-winning film, The Princess Bride, is based on the book and screenplay by William Goldman and will make pupils think anew about stereotypes and predicted outcomes in fairytales. This is the precursor of Shrek (minus the animation), as the narrative deliberately sets out to subvert all expected character-types and familiar swashbuckling plots with humour and a light touch. Arguably, this film has not had the exposure it deserves in the UK and will provide a pleasurable experience for those who attend. An introduction and follow-up activities will stretch pupils' understanding of fairytales, love stories and comic plots.
Suitable for Key Stage 2, Years 4-6 only.
