Real Shorts is a resource for helping teachers of English to introduce non-fiction film into their classrooms.

There can be no better or more exciting way of developing your students' understanding of how fiction and non-fiction differ, and the particular qualities of each, than using the short stimulating and engaging films made available in this DVD compilation, Real Shorts. In particular, Real Shorts can develop your students' media literacy skills, by strengthening their grasp of how the media represents reality.

Real Shorts consists of a DVD, a 'starter' booklet and this online teaching guide. The DVD includes a carefully selected collection of 15 films suitable for students aged 11 and over (though some films can be used with younger age groups). These films are ideal for teaching a range of skills in media literacy, speaking, listening, reading and writing, and can also be used to explore aspects of the Media Studies syllabus. The teaching guide has been developed by practicing teachers and includes a range of online resources to support classroom work with the films.
