These lesson plans are designed to cover the majority of the criteria of the Programme of Study for Citizenship. Each unit contains a series of lessons that are structured to have an element of continuity - we assume that students working at KS4 have already experienced the KS3 lessons. Therefore, if you want to start teaching at KS4 you may need to adapt some of the activities from the KS3 lessons in order that students have the knowledge and the skills to complete activities at KS4.
Each lesson plan is designed to last about 50 minutes to one hour and is based on a fast-paced approach to teaching, moving students quickly from one activity to the next. If you want to go into greater depth with any of the activities then it may be necessary to extend the lesson over two, or more, sessions. The structure of the lessons (Starter, Model, Development, Plenary) can also be used flexibly. Many of the ideas outlined here can be adapted and used with other television texts.
