An adaptation of Lillian Hellmann's play about a troublemaking student at a girl's school, who accuses two teachers of being lesbians.

William Wyler initially adapted the play as These Three starring Miriam Hopkins (who stars as Lily in the remake) and Merle Oberon as the teachers, but replaced the play's lesbian theme with a heterosexual love triangle.

Wyler remade These Three under its original title The Children's Hour in 1961 this time starring Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine. Despite Wyler's best intentions, critics at the time noted that the play, which was hailed as progressive in 1936, had dated.
