"The Boultings gave me my first part in a film. They were casting for the role of Cynthia Kite in I'm All Right Jack .
"I arrived at Shepperton Studios to audition for the part in I'm All Right Jack. It had taken me two hours to get there on a bus and train. When I arrived John looked at me and said that I wasn't at all suitable. I protested that this wasn't fair as I had spent so long traveling there. So he sent me off the makeup unit. In there they changed my hair, did my makeup and put me in a tight cashmere top with a belt around it and told me to hold myself straight, then sent me back out to audition for the bubble car scene. Afterwards I talked to John. I told him of my experience, but he dismissed my TV work. I also told him I played cricket at school. John was a huge fan of cricket and was pleased he could talk to a young actress about it. Two days later I was called to say could I go back as I had apparently got the part.
"I thought John was wonderful. He was a great director. He was a perfectionist. The sock darning scene in I'm All Right Jack with Terry Thomas and Peter Sellars took 72 takes."
