All smarmy style and hip-to-be-square suits, Peter Sellers keeps a great straight face as a womanising TV celebrity whose mid-life crisis comes comically into focus when he gets involved with a young Goldie Hawn.

His encounter with her loutish, long-haired boyfriend Nicky Henson is a marvellously sour summing up of what both the generation gap and Swinging London were all about and the way in which Hawn keeps him beguiled and besotted is consistently funny.

Sellers reputedly based his character's uppercrust mannerisms on those of the photographer Patrick Lichfield.
