This celebration - which incorporated a season of all his available work at the National Film Theatre plus a national release of the Fallen Idol and new prints of other titles - was an opportunity to revisit the classics and discover those lesser known titles. The bfi release Carol Reed's wonderfully astute psychological drama, which centres on the relationship between a young boy and a middle-aged man: the former the son of the French Ambassador to Britain, the latter the butler in the Belgravia Résidence.
