9. Srabon Megher Din (1999)
Language: Bengali

Starring: Zahid Hassan, Gholam Mostafa
Renowned novelist Humayun Ahmed is a household name in Bangladesh. After a long and successful writing and television career, he turned his hand to film in 1995. The result was Aguner Porosh Moni set against the backdrop of the 1971 independence struggle. Srabon Megher Din, based on one of his own books, is a romantic melodrama that deals with social problems. The music of the film was a rage and the performances of Gholam Mostafa and Zahid Hassan were appreciated. But what makes the film a landmark in the annals of Bangladeshi cinema is the fact that it brought middle class audiences, who had been wooed away by television and video, back to the cinemas.
