After asking our experts to compile a list of fifty essential South Asian films, we asked the users of the South Asian Cinema site to vote for their favourite South Asian films in the five offered categories. You can read the results below. This public vote is the culmination of a long process of discovery of South Asian and diaspora filmaking for the bfi and its audiences. The polls aim to generate discussion and provide a starting point for further research on these film histories and cultures.
