Policy

Both the BFI and the UK Film Council have policies to encourage the diversity of film culture in the UK.

Towards Visibility: A bfi Cultural Diversity Strategy

The bfi is committed to actively engaging with the UK's many and diverse cultures and communities and to promote public access to film, television and other moving image media relating to these diverse cultures. 'Towards Visibility' focuses on our plans to more effectively engage with ethnic minority communities, the result of extensive consultation with our existing partners and minority ethnic organisations and practitioners UK-wide.

Evaluation Report on South Asian Cinema Project

The evaluation of the 2002 South Asian Cinema festival was commissioned by the bfi and carried out by independent evaluators Pratap Rughani and Amanda White. It looked at the many dimensions of this wideranging eight month long festival and came up with a list of recommendations for the bfi and its partners as in how to sustain engagement with British Asian communities and South Asian film in general. These recommendations are being considered by the bfi as part of an ongoing Strategic Review of bfi activities and also by South Asian Cinema partners around the UK.

bfi Disability Strategy

In 2002 the bfi embarked on developing a corporate Disability Strategy with Action Plans to more effectively engage with disability issues and ensure that the bfi was working towards compliance with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). After a process of consultation this strategy's action plans are being rolled out across the bfi's many functions and outputs.
