Carla's Song (1996)

Ken Loach: This was a film based on Paul Laverty's time in Nicaragua. Bobby Carlyle gave a very generous and I think underrated performance as a Glaswegian bus driver who takes a Nicaraguan girl under his wing. These pictures (above) show his return to Nicaragua with Carla.
"It had been five years since I had worked with Ken on Riff-Raff and obviously things had moved on for both of us. The second time I was used to his usual tricks, the things he'd throw at you in the middle of a scene, and I was more aware that these things were likely to happen. On the whole, I would say that the experience working with Ken was richer for me on Carla's Song as I was able to enjoy it, whereas the first time it had passed so quickly."
