Top Of The Pops

Top Of The Pops first appeared in 1964 and has become the granddaddy of all UK TV pop shows. Its simple premise of just reflecting the music in the charts has proved remarkably durable only undermined of late due to the dwindling importance of the singles market. The show has relaunched recently in an attempt to counteract this; meanwhile, its sister programme, TOTP2 - plundering the TOTP (and other) archives - has proved a popular hit in its own right.
