A fresh, anarchic, occasionally shambolic, live music show broadcast from Newcastle, The Tube revolutionised ideas on youth programming. It proved a must-see appointment for every schoolkid, both to watch the bands in raw action and because you never knew what would happen next. Memorable moments included The Jam's last appearance, U2, The Smiths, and of course Jools Holland swearing on air at teatime.    PW
