Battle for Music (1943)

Film details

Synopsis

Re-enacted by the members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra themselves, the film tells of the efforts undertaken by the members to keep the orchestra together during the war.

Note: Viewing print 42922D (the complete film) ends with footage of Churchill and British troops accompanied by 'Land of Hope and Glory' on the soundtrack and a closing scrolling statement (see Film History synopsis).

Viewing print 40941A is of the final 14 minutes only, as per the above copy.

Viewing print 201982A (approximately 5 minutes of footage) is of an alternative ending. This ends with the orchestra playing Beethoven's Fifth Symphony while accompanied by the same closing scrolling statement that is used in the other version. In that other version, the playing of Beethoven's Fifth immediately precedes the footage of Churchill and troops.
