Can-Can (1960)

Film details

Synopsis

Musical, set in 19th century Paris. Simone Pistache runs a nightclub which is often raided by police for performing the illegal 'can-can'. She is romantically involved with one of Paris's finest lawyers, François Durnais, who is friendly with one of the top judges, Paul Barriere, so her business is rarely in real danger. When a strict young judge, Philippe Forestier, is appointed too, Simone and François fear that he will see that the club is closed down, but when Philippe falls for Simone, the situation changes - especially as he would love to marry her and François always shies away from conversations about marriage. Simone must decide whether she can be happy in Philippe's respectable world.
