The Great Race (1965)

Film details

Synopsis

Period comedy extravaganza set circa 1908, about an automobile race from New York to Paris, sponsored by a car company, between the popular escapologist and daredevil The Great Leslie (who always wears immaculate white clothes), and the embittered Professor Fate (clad in black, and ever ready to destroy his rival). Suffragette and reporter Maggie DuBois persuades a newspaper editor to let her cover the race and so she joins the racers. They head through the wild west (stopping at a town called Boracho, where a bar brawl ensues), they encounter a polar bear during a snowstorm, they cross the sea on an ice floe and continue through a middle-European country where they get embroiled in a 'Prisoner of Zenda' plot involving Professor Fate's striking resemblance to the crown prince and a pie fight in the castle kitchens. The race ends at the Eiffel Tower with some surprising results.
