Film details

Synopsis

Millie Dent, a lodger with elderly couple Sam and Jessie Collis, enters into an affair with fellow lodger Tom Hale. The latter suddenly leaves one day without saying anything to Millie or leaving a forwarding address. Millie becomes distraught at the news and confesses to Sam that she is pregnant. Sam sees that Millie has new lodgings where she can be attended to by a nurse, where he goes to visit her every night. Sam has been telling his wife that he has been working late, but, upon discovering that he has been lying, Jessie follows him and sees that he is visiting a woman with a baby. When Millie becomes ill after giving birth she dies. All is resolved between Sam and Jessie when Sam brings the baby home with him after the death of Millie, and the couple take it in.
