Synopsis

Murray Logan's wife, Sybil, never lets him forget the car crash in which she was disfigured. Murray on a business trip to New York meets an old Friend, Sam Bonner and his wife, Christine. Christine through ill heath has always lived an over-sheltered life and finds marriage equally suffocating. She is temporarily living apart from Sam. He asks Murray who is attracted by Christine to act as go-between. She agrees to go back to Sam if he will give her more freedom. The Bonners invite Murray and Sybil to join them in Greece. Sam is unable to leave but Sybil goes as 'watch-dog'. When Murray and Christine become more strongly attached, Sybil, who has begun an affair of her own, writes to Sam and Christine's mother to revenge herself on Murray. Christine's sudden death ends Murray's romance. Based on the novel, In the cool of the day.
