Invaders from Mars (1953)

Film details

Synopsis

Science fiction. David McLean, a typical American twelve year-old whose hobby is astronomy, awakens one night to see what appears to be a spaceship magically disappearing underground in a field near his house. The boy's father, engaged in secret atomic missile work at a nearby plant, goes out to investigate. When he returns, some strange, chilling charge overtakes him, and a small scar is apparent on the back of his neck. It is not long before David's mother comes under this contaminating influence too. David then sees a neighbour's little girl being swallowed up by the earth near the place where the spaceship landed. She later turns up safe, but cold and sinister and with the same scar. No one believes the story he tells and increasing fear strikes the boy. Finally, Dr. Pat Blake, a young physician with the city health department, take him to a mutual friend, Dr. Stuart Kelston. An astronomer, Kelston soon finds evidence to support the boy's discovery: through the observatory's telescope they see the commanding general in charge of security in the area being swallowed up by the earth just like the neighbour's little girl. The Army is instantly alerted and a frantic search begins for everyone bearing the scar. As demolition squads begin to blast down under the earth, Pat and David are mysteriously pulled underground, where they meet Martians and other weird humanoid creatures. A race to save the Earth and defeat the alien menace is now on the way.
