Synopsis

Romantic drama of a financially ruined man who marries the rich mayor's daughter but will not give up his mistress, a young dancer. He takes the girl to the country and leaves her in the care of a shepherd. The two fall in love and the shepherd kills the man in a duel.

[Tiefland was a film project of Riefenstahl's from 1934. Actual filming started originally in 1940; some further scenes were done at the Barrandov studios in 1944, but the film was only finally edited and released in 1953. In the intervening time the actress Maria Koppenhöfer died and Till Klockow voiced her part in some scenes of the final edition].
