Film details

Synopsis

When failing one-hit-wonder novelist Tony Barrett has his latest book rejected by the publisher, he leaves his expensive New York life and moves with his party-loving wife to a dilapidated old family home he has inherited in the tobacco-farming country of rural Connecticut. No sooner have they arrived than some Polish-American neighbours offer to buy a field from Tony for $5000. He accepts, and is smitten by the daughter of the family, Manya, though she is practically engaged. When Tony's wife moves back to New York with the $5000 (while remains, to work on his next novel, about the Polish community in America), he begins to make a move on Manya. Things do no go well.
