Following the disaster at Chernobyl in 1986, investigates the safety of Britain's nuclear power station, focusing on the Hartlepool power station. Situated in the heart of industrial Teeside, hemmed in by a huge petrochemical complex and with a nearby population of nearly one million people, the station has the smallest evacuation zone in the western world. The programme considers the sort of nuclear accidents that might occur and how the emergency services would cope.
