Synopsis
Drama set on the sheep farms of Kent's Romney marshes at the turn of the century. In 1905 Joanna Godden is left her father's farm. Strong-willed and determined to go her own way, she decides to run the farm herself, but, ignoring the advice of local experts, she makes changes which put her pedigree flock at risk. She also declines to marry her lifelong friend Arthur from the next farm. She sends her younger sister Ellen to boarding school where, to Joanna's chagrin, Ellen becomes a spoilt snob. Joanna falls for the charming Martin, son of the local squire Harry Trevor. But on a visit to the seaside at Dungeness, fate intervenes again in her life, and not for the last time.
