Film details


A crook appears to blackmail an old man.

A sailor is seen struggling with a young woman on a beach at the seashore. A naval officer appears, fends off the ruffian and befriends the young woman, before going on his way. In the next scene the woman is seen arriving at home with her father and the ruffian. She goes to her room and eavesdrops on the conversation between the ruffian and her father. The ruffian explains his plot to the older man. The woman is distraught at what she overhears. The naval officer is seen at his work at a coastal station. (176) The officer is next seen walking along the beach with the young woman. The ruffian looks on from a rock above. The young woman and the officer see her father loading barrels into a fishing boat, hiding them under lobster pots. The woman is distraught. The officer is about to lead the old man away when the ruffian pounces on him from behind. The old man accuses the ruffian of killing the officer, meanwhile the woman has run for help. The two men drag the body away. (238) A man is seen in a prison cell, apparently being asphyxiated by a large snake. In a different cell a man is chained to a post. (257) The old man is seen loading a barrel in a fishing boat as before. (266)
