Professor Dan McKenzie, the Cambridge geologist who first formulated the modern theory of continental drift plate tectonics, has sought to explain how disastrous events like the volcanic eruptions that split open the west side of India sixty-six million years ago have periodically disturbed and shaped the planet. Fellow geologist show how McKenzie's new ideas and unifying theory of how the earth's mantle melts are being applied to redraw our picture of the sworld.
