Hard Men (1978)

Film details

Synopsis

DS Davey Freeth from Strathclyde police arrives in London with warrants for the arrest of three Glasgwegian hard men. When he bursts into their flat, along with Regan and Carter, they find one of the villains dead and no sign of the other two. The presence of chloroform and ropes in the flat indicates that a kidnapping is being planned. Whilst Regan is diverted from the case to investigate a stolen painting from Windsor Castle, the Chief Superintendent who takes over from him discovers photographs of a young girl - the intended kidnap victim - in the flat and eventually shows them to Freeth. Freeth unearths information about where he can find one of the men, but loses him in a chase. Meanwhile Gibson and Ross attempt to kidnap the little girl Maggie, but botch the attempt when her mother attacks them and Maggie runs off and hides. They believed she was the daughter of major Scottish villain Boyd, but got the wrong house, but only Freeth realises this and keeps it to himself until he is one step ahead of Regan and Carter in the investigation. He contacts Boyd, who knows where to find the men, and have they have an agreement to have one each. Ross is killed in the street by Boyd and Freeth arrests Gibson and returns to Scotland.
