Lady Luck (1976)

Film details

Synopsis

Middle-class housewife Marcia Rodway is attracted to Regan and offers him information in return for sex. She informs on her husband, who was involved in a recent violent robbery on a betting shop, but when Regan and the squad pull him in, they find evidence hard to obtain. Edmund Rodway did have a record under his real name, that he changed years ago, and an old lady who was attacked when she got in the way of the robbers picks him out in an identity parade. However, he seems to have an unbreakable alibi as the impeccable Colonel Rosier and his wife were having dinner with the Rodways at the time of the robbery. Marcia begins to be worried that Edmund will know it was she who alerted the police and Regan is angry with her for not giving him all the details beforehand and anxious to cover the fact that they have had a relationship. He is frustrated by not being able to fit the time it would take to get to the betting shop and commit the robbery and get back to the Rodway's house with the only space of time in which Edmund was absent from the dining room. He and Carter work out that it could be done using a motorbike, but by then the witness has died and the Crown Prosecution decide there is insufficient evidence, so Rodway is released.
